Turtle Beach Stealth Pro 2 review: The very best headphones gamers could desire

It may cost £300, but the Turtle Beach Stealth Pro 2 gaming headset really does set a new high bar for audio quality and flexibility for those players seeking an edge in online blockbusters

Gamers looking for an outstanding high-grade headset for their online multiplayer action should look no further than these amazing cans.

Yes, they cost a lot of money. But my oh my, how good they are.

And quality comes at a price because he we get a truly premium build earphone set that’s incredibly versatile, has a never-ending power supply (as long as you do things right) and a superb soundscape across the ears.

The Stealth Pro 2 aims to be gamers’ go-to headset for high-level audio in those key online games.

And Turtle Beach has delivered in spades here with a comfortable, effortlessly beautiful looking set of cans that have a fantastic audio under the bonnet.

It’s a multi platform headset, so works across PS5, PC and Xbox consoles and you can seamlessly switch between up to four platforms and devices at the touch of a button via Bluetooth and a 2.4 GHz connectivity receiver at the same time.

You can even listen to two things at the same time, so maybe your music from your phone in the background with the gaming audio’s gunshots and explosions in the foreground.

There are two swappable batteries that click into one of the ear cups and they each have around 40 hours of charge in them.

The receiver base that comes in the package also doubles as a charging dock for your second battery so you should never run out of juice when one is being used in the headset while the other charges back up.

It’s a simple pop-and-swap mechanism with a clever magnetic-style plate covering the battery on the headset so you’d never know it’s even there when gaming.

For those who love a chat in-game the head has a removable 9mm boom mic in the box that gives you very clear voice audio and AI noise reduction to wash away any background noise.

It has a convenient flip-to-mute control.

But you can also use built-in ‘beamforming’ microphones too on the headset to do the job and they work well if you’re just chatting in more of a phone bluetooth mode than playing a game.

The earphones themselves sit comfortably across the top of the head with a mesh-design headband, and the cups are all soft-touch material using memory foam so feel thick, comfy and cool on the ears.

They’re designed to be comfortable too for people who wear glasses with a small, adjustable channel in the ear cushion just behind the temples to relieve pressure.

Each ear cup features large 60mm dual drivers, each featuring dedicated woofers and tweeters.

This means you get incredibly distinct highs and basses when gaming. War sounds particularly on games like Call of Duty are booming, with the nip and swoosh of bullets flying by really feeling like they’re just past you.

Chatter in games is also incredibly clear thanks to this split across the drivers and the mid levels of sound also feel warm and welcoming, again very distinct from the highs and lows.

It’s all rather brilliant and Turtle Beach need to be congratulated here in delivering superb gaming audio.

There are four built-in Turtle Beach audio presets on the headset itself to switch between, including Bass Boost, Signature Sound, Treble Boost and Vocal Boost.

But you can also delver ever-deeper into the Swarm II companion app you can download which then gives you access to a custom 10-band audio EQ, microphone EQ, sensitivity & noise gate adjustments and the latest firmware.

Everything feels intuitive and easy to use and the whole build both physically and under the hood delivers real class across the board.

Overall, Turtle Beach has executed a new high bar for gaming headsets that gives you endless battery life, sensational gaming sound and an unrivalled flexibility across PC and consoles.

Yes, it costs an eye-watering £300 for the Stealth Pro 2s but then you know you’re getting quality here if you do have the money to splash out for the best.

VERDICT 5/5
