Teen disappeared at same time hikers heard terrifying sound on ‘forbidden’ trail

One man recalls the terrifying screams of a missing man that he says have traumatised him for life after he was on the same trail as a missing boy.

One hiker claims to have heard a chilling noise at the exact time one walker went missing along the trail he was on – and never returned.

An infamous walk- called the “stairway to heaven” in Hawaii has now shut forever following the sickening missing persons case.

In 2015, 18-year-old Daylenn Pua went missing on a walk on the Haʻikū Stairs. Daylenn was last seen on 27 February and never returned, according to Hawaii’s News Now.

The site has its roots in World War Two’s history – when the steel step structure was built as an access route to the US Navy communication facilities on O’ahu island.

The 3,922 steps carve across the mountain range making for a breathtaking route.

Daylenn was sending his grandmother snapshots of the scenic hotspots along his journey. Hauntingly, one of the last pictures he sent to her seems to show a man crouched in a bush behind him.

The figure was since dubbed the “shadow man.” Speculation grew and many theorised the man was real and had something to do with the teenager’s disappearance.

Rescuers focused on a narrow ridge after a group of hikers, who claim to have been on the Haʻikū Stairs around the same time, said they heard a cry for help at the exact time Daylenn went missing.

One man on Reddit, Dclandry, claimed to have heard the noise. He wrote: “I could never explain to you the feeling I felt when you hear a cry like that. The hiker did not trust pass and go up the stairs. By the looks of the photographs, he didn’t ever make it to the stairs.

“The hiker went up the Moanalua way. I’m not a local so I don’t really know any of the name of the ridges, all I can do is try my best to explain to others where we went and where it was that we heard him.

“We started the hike on a trail about 20 feet from the Kulana’ahane trail. We had hiked about three hours up.

“We were yelling to each other to make sure the others were okay because we were so far apart. The wind died down for just a half a second and we hear a scream ‘help me!'”

They were so ‘shook’ up by the incident that they called 911 for help and when the rescue team showed up they allegedly heard more ‘screams’.

“I’m down here!” the group of five were said to have heard, but were unable to figure out where the noise was coming from exactly.

“The wind was so bad and the clouds are starting to roll in so it was hard to hear anything. My friend and I that heard the last cry, are heading up the ridge tomorrow the same way that we went Monday.

“It’s hard to explain where the location was that we heard it, as well as where the voice was coming from.”
