Cloudflare investigating ‘fiber cut in North America’ as popular websites to do down

Cloudfalre has issued a statement after popular internet services such as X, Fortnite and others have been hit with issues as the company is investigating a fiber cut in Eastern North America

Some of the most popular internet services are experiencing issues as Cloudflare suffered issued a statement after reports of a major outage this afternoon (June 22). The company said there are no reports of a outage but have identified that Zayo, a network provider, is currently experiencing issues.

Social media platform X, Fortnite, and other popular internet services are seeing issues and “increased latencies” in Europe and North America. Cloudflare has said it is looking into the matter and currently investigating a “fiber cut in Eastern North America”.

In an update on the outage, Cloudfalre said: “We are investigating a fiber cut in Eastern North America. Customers connecting through North America or accessing services in Europe may see increased latencies and timeouts as Cloudflare engineers look to mitigate.”

The latest update from Cloudflare said they continuing traffic engineering work to mitigate the impact.

In a statement, a Cloudflares spokesperson said: “We don’t see any Cloudflare global outage currently. The only issue we’re aware of is that Zayo, a network provider, is experiencing an outage on some of its network routes.

“That may cause some sites using Zayo exclusively to be unreachable, whether they use Cloudflare or not. We are seeing evidence Zayo’s network is recovering and expect any errors to be short lived.”

Social media platform X was also hit with users are unable to load feeds. As of 2.54pm, Downdetecter had recorded over 11,000 reports of issues with Elon Musk’s site.

According to monitoring sites, X users in the US, UK, Greece, France, and Algeria are all experiencing issues with a peak of at 11,800 reports just before 3pm, according to the Express.

Some people have also been reporting issues with Fortnite, but it is currently unknown if it is connected with the Cloudflare issue. One person said: “I cant log into Fortnite and when I try to it says there was a problem.”

Another added: “Fortnite and X BOTH down? I’m gonna order some Door Dash and listen to Spotify, this is ridiculous.”

There was also some reporting Discord and Zoom also having issues.
