Boy, 3, found dead in car during 44C heat after parents thought he was asleep in room

France has been hit with another child death during the major heatwave after a three-year-old boy was found dead inside a boiling car as both parents thought he was asleep in his room

A three-year-old boy has tragically been found dead in a hot car during a major heatwave in France that saw temperatures reach as high as 44C.

The boy was found dead by his parents on Wednesday (June 24) evening in Saint-Gratien, Val-d’Oise, as calls were made to emergency services at around 7pm..

The child was discovered in cardiac arrest in the family vehicle after the boy had told his parents he was going for a nap in his room. The tragedy comes just days after two children, aged two and four, were also found dead in another part of France.

According to French publication Le Parisien, the boy had told his parents he wanted to take a nap and was asked to go to his room to sleep.

It is believed the parents both thought he had been in his room before they frantically realised he was not there. Around 45 minutes later, he was found in the boiling car.

His mother reportedly let out a scream when he was found that caused a passing bus driver to stop his vehicle and come to try save the boy by performing CPR. He continued till emergency services arrived.

It is currently unknown as to how and why the boy had gotten in the car as police are now investigating.

The incident follows another dreadful incident earlier this week when two kids were found dead in a hot car after their mum reportedly “forgot”.

The children were discovered in the family vehicle, parked in the garage of a detached house in the Bois de l’Ubac area of Carpentras, France. Despite efforts to resuscitate them by emergency services, both children sadly passed away. A manslaughter investigation has since been launched.

A statement from the Carpentras prosecutor’s office suggested that initial findings indicate “the hypothesis of a death resulting from exposure to excessive heat” seems “plausible subject to the results of further analyses currently underway”.

Early investigations have considered the possibility that the children entered the car without their 33 year old mother’s knowledge and subsequently became trapped,

A police source informed Le Parisien that the mother claimed to have “forgotten her children” while out shopping.

According to a source close to the investigation speaking to AFP, she has provided several differing accounts of the incident.
