A girl, 12, was found dead in a pond after she was allegedly gang raped by four people while heading to the shop in Baruipur, West Bengal – 2 people have been arrested

A 12-year-old girl’s lifeless body was discovered in a pond after she was allegedly subjected to a horrific gang rape while on an errand to the local shop. Authorities have confirmed that two suspects have been arrestred in connection with the reported assault.

According to reports, the young girl had ventured out to purchase food from a nearby shop on Saturday evening (July 4), but failed to return home, prompting her parents to report her missing to the police. A search operation was swiftly launched, and her body, concealed in a sack, was found in a pond the following morning.

The girl’s parents informed the police that four individuals had abducted her prior to her tragic demise. As reported by The Star, the alleged gang rape and murder occurred in the city of Baruipur, West Bengal, India, sparking widespread outrage and violent protests among local residents.

The demonstrations led to the blockade of roads and railway lines across the area, with protesters also engaging in vandalism and hurling stones at police personnel, reports the Express.

Local media outlets reported that a young man was fatally assaulted by the protesters, who claimed he had been in the company of the suspects and was believed to be involved in the alleged murder.

Law enforcement officials have confirmed the arrest of two suspects in connection with the alleged gang rape and murder of the young girl. A substantial police presence was deployed to quell the violent protests and restore order.

Inspector General of Police, Kankar Prasad Barui, assured: “The situation is under control.

“A large police picket has been deployed and no one involved in this heinous crime will be spared. We will ensure that all the accused are arrested and the strongest possible punishment is sought.”

The young girl’s body has been transported to Baruipur Sub-Divisional Hospital for a post-mortem examination. In the meantime, police presence has been bolstered across the region due to the potential for additional protests.
