A gunman reportedly shouted “Allahu Akbar” before allegedly opening fire outside a major supermarket in Germany earlier today (July 15).

Police were called to the Netto supermarket in Dresden at around 8:20am to reports of an armed man being in front of the store. According to Germany publication Bild, the man wax reportedly carrying a type of “musket” in his hand and opened fire when officers approached him.

The incident sparked a gunfire exchange between the suspect and officers with reports he shouted “Allahu Akbar” before the first shot was fired. The suspect, who police say is a 41-year-old Turkish man, was subdued after being shot and injured by police.

Thankfully police confirmed no officers or members of the public were shot or injured during the horror early morning scenes today.

Bild reported that witnesses spotted the armed man in the Friedrichstadt district, at the corner of Menageriestraße and Berliner Straße.

German media have reported seeing a pool of blood at the scene, reportedly from the suspect after he was shot by officers.

Footage from the incident has been shared online showing officers taking cover behind cars and corners as they looked to subdue the suspect.

Other clips show blood close to the entrance of the supermarket and the suspect being treated in an amulance.

The suspected was taken to a hospital for treatment for his injuries. His condition is currently unknown but he is under investigation for threats and violation of weapons laws, according to police.

Police cordoned off the area around the supermarket and said there is no longer any danger. It is currently unknown whether or not the suspect had planned to enter the store.
