Battle Royale-style ‘Death Game’ will see ‘bomb collars’ placed on guests at theme park
A new theme park attraction will see guests fight for survival in a ‘Death Game’ that will see contestants were a bomb collar in an experience based on Netflix show Alice in Borderland
A new theme park attraction looks set to give visitors the opportunity wear a “bomb collar” to experience being part of a Battle Royale-style game in real-life – but without the death.
Survival hit films like Hunger Games and Battle Royale, where the aim is to be the last person standing as a bomb is strapped to your neck, broke the mould for game show style gore before Netflix’s Squid Games.
Now fans of another Netflix hit, Alice in Borderland, are getting a show inspired attraction at a theme park that will allow fans to compete in a “Death Game”.
The attraction is due to launch at Huis Ten Bosch in Sasebo, Nagasaki, Japan on August 27 this year. Obviously, unlike the movies and series, the “bomb collar” won’t be life ending but the theme park hints players me get a little shock in this survival horror experience.
Early details of the experience, which is required players be 15 and over, say the game will last 30 minutes with a number of warnings for players who may have health conditions. It is advised to check these before you decide to play.
The also say that the “collar worn during this attraction will actually conduct electricity”. It is also the same “collar bomb” that was in the Alice in Borderland.
In the description on the website (translated from Japanese), it says: “As a player, you pick up a collar bomb. Once you put it on, you can’t take it off unless you clear the game within the time limit.
“You’ll be participating in a betrayal “heart game” where you toy with people’s feelings. With unreasonable rules, inescapable tension, and a ticking time limit, you’ll be immersed in an overwhelming world that feels like the world of the popular Netflix series Alice in Borderland, and take on a shocking game where you fight for survival.”
Despite the series, there is no real details of what exactly the heart game will entail but we may find out closer to the launch day.
Many of current survival horror films and series have been inspired by the controversial Battle Royale franchise that saw an unhappy teacher kidnap his students and attach a ‘bomb collar’ to each one.
They would then have to fight on an island until the last one was left standing. The winner would be the only one who got to leave. The concept has since been used in numerous other franchises, including Alice in Borderland.
