Muse Charm Puts Meta’s New AI Agent on a Keychain You Can Talk To

Mark Zuckerberg closed Meta Connect 2026 with a gadget small enough to clip to a bag. On September 23 in Menlo Park he held up a puck about the size of an AirPods case, tapped a fingerprint sensor in the corner, and started a conversation with Muse without unlocking a phone or opening an app. He called the unit Muse Charm and said Meta had packed the whole Muse experience, including the real-time voice model and the animated avatar, into something that stays on a keychain and is always ready to talk.

Muse Charm is a palm-sized device with a two-inch OLED touchscreen and a highly customizable avatar named Muse, also known as Jolly internally. Users can play around with its appearance, attire, voice, accent and even its speaking rate to get the personality exactly perfect. A side fingerprint sensor initiates the process by waking up the unit, after which Charm begins listening. The cameras at the front and rear transmit visual context to Muse, allowing it to instantly recognize products, read signs, and provide a play-by-play of what is pointed at. Its cameras can also take images and videos, which may be shown back on the little screen.

Other features include speakers, microphones, USB-C charging, and a built-in 5G modem, allowing you to stay in touch with Muse whether you’re connected to Wi-Fi or not, without having to mess with connecting it with your phone. It is not built for phone or video calls, but rather for ordinary music and video playback. There is also the added benefit of two Charms being able to recognize and interact when they are close together. However, you must still set up and sync the device via your phone or tablet, using the Muse app on an iPhone or Android.

The Superintelligence group and Meta’s design lab, helmed by former Apple interface chief Alan Dye, constructed the item. Initially, they planned to debut in 2027, but Zuckerberg was so eager to get it out the door that he pushed the team to finish it by December 2026, just in time for the holidays. At this point, there are only a few prototypes floating around, and they still need to finalize the features, including the price, which is unknown. However, rumor has it that it will be in the smartwatch territory. It is still unclear what carrier fees will be for the 5G radio. There’s hardly much to say about battery life; it’s a complete mystery.

Muse appeared on the scene as a free agent that will plan flights, order groceries, manage finances, and submit paperwork for you, but you must first grant it access to your calendar, payment, and app information. Each agent operates within a locked-down cloud environment known as a Secure VM, with a Sentinel process to approve any actions it wishes to conduct. You get a free weekly token allocation of up to 100 million tokens, or you can pay for Power and Maximum plans at $20 and $100 per month, respectively.
