New Apple Watch Ultra 4 Rumors Hint at a Thinner Case and Stronger Health Features

Apple has held its Ultra watch line to a consistent formula since the first model launched in 2022. The titanium case, large display, and focus on serious outdoor and fitness use carried through with only small refinements in the Ultra 3. Supply chain reports shared by DigiTimes describe a major redesign of the exterior along with a significant upgrade to the sensing system. The changes target the case proportions that have stayed nearly identical across three generations. Multiple accounts point to a noticeably slimmer titanium body, with some estimates around 15 percent thinner while keeping the familiar 49mm footprint.
A slimmer profile on the Ultra would finally answer one of the most common criticisms leveled against the existing model. It currently rests a little too high on the wrist, especially if you’re tracking your sleep or wearing long sleeves. That bulkiness can be really inconvenient. A smaller profile would readily resolve this issue, allowing users to go about their regular lives without the watch seeming like a restriction. It would also avoid sacrificing the Ultra’s ruggedness, which has earned it a favorite among hikers, divers, and endurance sports. To add to this, the back of the watch is also set to change. We’ve already seen some early leaks and more current claims indicating that the Ultra 4 would include an eight-sensor array arrayed in a circular arrangement rather than clumped together. This effectively spreads the sensors across more of the wrist, allowing them to receive a better reading when you move around. This should significantly improve the accuracy of heart rate, blood oxygen, temperature, and recovery parameters.

As for health tracking, it appears that Apple is putting a lot more attention into it this time around. We’ve already received updated watchOS updates that incorporate hypertension notifications. Now, new Ultra 4 rumors say that we may see a more advanced blood pressure alerts system that kicks in much sooner than previously, as in the next day, rather than when you eventually get around to checking them out. It will not be classic cuff-style readings, but it should provide consumers with much more peace of mind and an early warning if there is something to be concerned about. However, the blood glucose monitoring is not visible this time, and we are still promised that it will be available in the future.
There is also more going on underneath the hood. Expect a new S-series semiconductor made with a more efficient technology. That should ensure that the additional sensors do not simply drain the battery faster – and based on what we’ve heard, the Ultra 4 may actually have a somewhat longer battery life. Another day or so may not seem like much, but it is something. And the endurance for GPS-heavy tasks remains where it should be, which is not a negative thing.
Other enhancements are rumored, such as slimmer bezels or a slightly larger screen area, which should allow users to see workout metrics and maps more clearly. That is always a good enhancement. We should note, however, that some analysts, including Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, believe that the broader Apple Watch lineup will not receive many drastic changes this time. Touch ID integration on the crown or a button is less certain. We noticed some early code references and leaker mentions, but later reports suggested it had been put on the back burner. Upgraded satellite functions beyond the existing Emergency SOS and messaging are also mentioned in some publications, though we haven’t heard anything about them yet.
Finally, the Ultra 4 is expected to be launched in September, alongside the new iPhone models. If we go by what happened last time, the price would be roughly $799, which is the same as the current Ultra.
