Ryanair horror as passenger ‘sucked through dislodged window’ as ‘wife clings to legs’
Ryanair has issued a statement after reports that a passenger was allegedly “sucked” out of a “dislodged window” on a flight from Thessaloniki as his wife reportedly clung to his legs
A passenger on a Ryanair flight has reportedly received medical treatment after they were allegedly “sucked” out of a window. The Boeing 737-800 flight from Thessaloniki, Greece, to Memmingen, Germany, reportedly saw the male passenger with up to his shoulders out of the window with his head outside the plane.
The flight returned to Greece due to the incident, which happened shortly after the plane took off at 5:55am local time today (July 10). Reports claims a loud bang was heard before the incident with Ryanair confirming a passenger window had “dislodged inflight”.
Videos of the incident have been shared on social media as German publication BILD reports a man was partly ‘sucked’ through the window.
Speaking to Greek broadcaster ERT, one eyewitness said they saw “his head and shoulders were sticking out”. The man’s wife was reportedly seen clinging to her husbands legs as other passengers came to their aid.
Another witness, speaking to Radio Thessaloniki, said: “A noise was heard as if a tire had burst. There was panic with screams and voices because we immediately lost altitude from the decompression.
“For a moment I thought someone had accidentally opened the emergency door. The flight attendants lost it. We all immediately put on our masks. It seemed like a very long time before we understood what was happening.”
The plane reportedly landed normally following the horror scenes onboard with passengers taken on another aircraft after 9:53am to Memmingen.
The passenger involved in the chaotic scenes is believed to be a 61-year-old Serbian national, according to De Telegraaf. His wounds are described as not serious but are believed to around the neck area.
The airline confirmed one passenger requested medical assistance and was treated when they landed at Thessaloniki.
In a statement, Ryanair said: “A Ryanair flight from Thessaloniki to Memmingen on Friday morning (10 July) returned to Thessaloniki shortly after take-off when a passenger window dislodged inflight. The aircraft landed normally and passengers returned to the terminal.
“One passenger requested and received medical assistance on the ground in Thessaloniki. In order to minimise any delay, a replacement aircraft was arranged to bring passengers to Memmingen which departed Thessaloniki at 9:53 local this morning.”
There has been no further details released on how the incident occurred at this time.
