Teen singer, 17, collapses and dies of a stroke just before going on stage
Andreea Micu, a 17-year-old singer has died after suffering a stroke moments before a performance at a festival in Bisoca, Romania – heartbroken family said she had so many dreams
A 17-year-old singer has passed away after suffering a stroke moments before taking to the stage. The young artist, Andreea Micu, was with a folk dance troupe just before a performance at a festival in Bisoca, Romania, on 9 May, when she began complaining of an excruciating headache.
Within moments, she collapsed. She was rushed to hospital in Buzău before being moved to a specialist unit in Bucharest.
Andreea was diagnosed as having suffered a stroke and received emergency care. Her condition remained serious. Heartbreakingly, following two weeks in a coma, she passed away on Saturday (23 May).
Andreea, from Vintilă Vodă, hailed from a family of performers, as reported by NeedToKnow. She was studying at secondary school in Buzău and performed with a folk dance group in Mânzălești.
She was the granddaughter of musician Cristian Micu – himself the grandson of author Mircea Micu – and had been raised surrounded by folk music heritage.
Andreea regularly performed alongside her grandfather, featuring in television shows and live concerts. Cristian Micu said she “had so many dreams and so many friends”.
He posted online: “Do you know what I wish for right now, Andreea?
“I wish God would slap me awake from this sleep and tell me it was all just a bad dream, and that you’re okay.”
While stroke rates in older adults have seen a decrease, instances in individuals under 55 have been dramatically increasing over the last 10–20 years, with roughly 20,000 new “young stroke” cases each year in the UK, as per a study from 2024.
