Tragedy as Brit boy, 3, dies after falling into pool day after arriving on Spain holiday

Tragedy struck at a rural holiday home in the village of Periana, part of Spain’s La Axarquia region – the town council said ‘there are no words that can ease such immense grief’

A three-year-old British boy has tragically lost his life after falling into a swimming pool during a family holiday near Costa del Sol. The alarm was raised at around 8.30am this morning at a rural holiday home in the village of Periana, part of Spain’s La Axarquia region and roughly 30 miles north-east of Malaga.

The boy was holidaying at the property with his parents. Emergency services, including police and paramedics, rushed to the scene, with a helicopter also dispatched as part of the urgent response.

Sadly, despite their best efforts, they were unable to save the young boy, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The Civil Guard have initiated an investigation into the heartbreaking incident, but sources close to the case have indicated that there is currently no evidence suggesting any criminal activity.

One source stated: “Investigators are still awaiting the results of the post-mortem but it appears to be a tragic accident.”

Periana Council expressed their sorrow in a statement and direct message to the boy’s parents, saying: “Today is a deeply sad day for our town.

“On behalf of Periana Town Council, we would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the child who has passed away.

“There are no words that can ease such immense grief, but we do wish to convey to you all our love, support and solidarity at this very difficult time.

“The whole of Periana shares your sadness and stands with you in your grief at such a painful and unjust loss.”

Mayor Meritxell Vizueta revealed she had visited the property alongside a councillor to offer comfort to the grieving family.

Local reports indicated that the young lad was the sole child of the holidaying couple, who are heartbroken by their tragic loss. One report stated that the British family had only arrived at the farmhouse the previous day.

One said: “He was British as are his parents. They were on holiday and had only arrived at the farmhouse yesterday (TUE).

“The boy was an only child as far as I’m aware. The parents are obviously beside themselves with grief. It’s an awful situation.”

It is not yet clear where in the UK the family are from. They are understood to be receiving support from a local priest.
