Tourists ‘stabbed to death’ before being thrown into ‘crocodile infested waters’

The pair of tourists, one Brit and one American, were found in a crocodile-infested river at Kruger National Park just 24 hours after they were reported missing

Two tourists have been brutally stabbed to death and their bodies dumped in a crocodile-infested river at the renowned Kruger National Park in South Africa.

Visitors to the park’s river crossing, who had gathered to observe elephants, made the gruesome discovery of the two lifeless, blood-soaked bodies in the water. The alarmed onlookers alerted authorities, and South African National Park game rangers, who had been searching for the couple for 24 hours, rushed to the scene of the horrific find.

The bodies were found at Crook’s Corner, a notorious location with a 150-year history as a hideout for ivory poachers, gun runners, and murderers, which has since become a popular tourist spot.

Located in the Parfuri region of the 7,500 sq mile national park, Crook’s Corner marks the point where the borders of South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique converge at a river crossing.

The victims, believed to be a 71-year-old man and his unidentified wife, were last seen at a picnic site on Wednesday.

It is thought they were staying at the Parfuri Camp or close by after entering the site at the Parfuri Gate on Sunday, May 17, in a green Ford Ranger double cab 4 x 4.

They did not return to their camp overlooking the River Luvhuvhu on Wednesday night and the alert was raised on Thursday morning and a full scale search was launched. A Kruger National Park source said: “It was hoped that they had gone off road and broken down somewhere but then we got a call to say two bodies had been found.

“They were in the river at Crook’s Corner which has a bit of a notorious reputation and when our rangers got there they pulled the two bodies up onto the riverbank.

“Both had been stabbed in what was clearly a very brutal attack and had been thrown into the river and their 4 x 4 had been stolen so this is a very major incident for us.

“We have never an incident like this the history of the Kruger and we are praying that this does not cause a major tourist knee jerk reaction who decide it is no longer a safe place to visit. This is an extremely safe national park and this has shocked us all.”

Just last month pop sensation Dua Lipa posted photographs of herself and her fiancé Callum Turner on safari in the Kruger with her posing in front of wild elephants.
